ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the manner in which researchers, especially representatives of Constructivism, analyze the role and identity of the EU in external relations within the frames of International Relations and European Studies. The chapter especially focuses on the search for analytical perspectives of that role and its identity for the third parties.

The character and the role of a given subject of international relations not only constitutes an effect of the definition accepted by it but is also a subject to acceptance of its features and actions which the external environment derives from them. Basic theoretical assumption about the EU’s identity refers to the Normative Power Europe (NPE) concept.
