ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 discusses contracts for design services. Procurement of design is considered, taking into account the allocation of risk. Contract terms addressing risk transference are reviewed, and illustrated by examples of risk transfer in design contracts that, in the authors’ view, are inappropriate. The chapter emphasises that design contracts involve activities that are conceptually different to construction, and require different types of contracts.
