ABSTRACT

The purpose of this book was to put forth a new framework, a more intersectional model of how civil society and the polity work to control citizenship, and thus citizens. The book articulated five markers, which when applied to citizens, traps them in a second-class citizenship—patriotism, property ownership, participation, productivity, and reproductivity (reproducing citizens). While it is much easier to work with a docile citizenry than deal with the messiness of a democracy, it is in the messiness that we find the essence and potential of the noble experiment that is American Democracy. This chapter lays out a path from inequality to equality for all.
