ABSTRACT

In this part of our investigation into rent, the main themes are absolute rent and its criticism by traditional economists. The development of criticism of Marx in general, and the emergence of outright untenable positions on “urban rent”, is kept in sight. It is shown how these positions, which definitely cannot reflect class relations in capitalist society, may entertain some false degree of plausibility for nations where capitalist production is based on formal subsumption of labour. In this way, we approach themes to be highlighted in Chapter 5.
