ABSTRACT

The FLSD process can be applied, to any counseling setting that works with multiple clients, to engage with the client and to assess the family situation. The students who first used the FLSD took the interactive multiple client member, family assessment tool and applied its use to many different types of counseling environments. This chapter of the book discusses some of the ways that the symbolic expressive technique of the FLSD can be used to meet, join, assess and engage clients in various human services settings. Some of the settings include social service work with foster care and adoption, people experiencing poverty, work with immigrants, and aging services. The chapter provides some case examples of potential uses with clients in foster care, psychiatric settings, and working with a family with a deaf person in the family.
