ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the origins of the FLSD and provides information on the development and early uses of the FLSD assessment process. The history and work of Polish native Danuta Mostwin, creator of the FLSD, is shared and her work is discussed. The early development and application of the FLSD is illustrated though the description of the Short-Term Multidimensional Family Treatment Model (STMFI), a team approach to working with families. This chapter discusses the STMFI model of family treatment and describes the way that Mostwin utilized the FLSD assessment process in working with families of at-risk youth in the first and last sessions of family treatment.
