Go for the Green Belt

WithKate McGovern

This chapter summarizes the Lean Green Belt program provided by the NH Bureau of Education & Training. The program is primarily focused on training Lean project facilitators, although some participants take the program to gain a better understanding of techniques and principles to prepare for supporting Lean initiatives in other roles. Green Belts are change agents who lead and support efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization. A module on facilitation skills is followed by specific instructions for facilitating kaizen events. A module on change management and Lean management precedes a module on Lean tools. Facilitation of kaizen events requires attention to both process and product. A good facilitator guides the team in accomplishing each task, while taking the time to assure that each member’s perspectives are heard. Good communication is fundamental to addressing concerns. It’s also critical to have clarity, transparency, and inclusiveness in the planning.
