ABSTRACT

Armknecht-Miller describes self-reflection as the leader’s opportunity to look into themselves and identify potential areas for personal growth as well as problematic traits, and develop strategies to overcome the issues. Just as it is important for the leader to learn the art of self-reflection, it is also important to teach the skill to leadership team and staff. Mentors are critical to the growth of any leader. They support us and are willing to teach in a way that grows us through their giving. There are three components of gratitude: being thankful, showing appreciation and returning kindness. All three of these align nicely together to demonstrate that those who are grateful for what they have and give back through kindness feel better about themselves and are honored in the organization. In order to provide an effective and successful work environment for the staff, the leader must know what that looks like to the staff.
