ABSTRACT

The metaphor of the phoenix is a powerful image for leaders to aspire to. Because of its powerful imagery, the word phoenix is used as both a noun and an adjective. The Arabian phoenix is the most well known throughout history. This image is one of a large bird, as large as an eagle and brilliantly colored with a sweet melodic song that was said to enchant the gods. The Bennu is the Egyptian description of the phoenix. It is described as a very large bird similar to the great heron, with two large feathers on top of its head. Fenghuang is the Chinese phoenix. Chinese mythology characterizes this bird as a symbol of majesty, high virtue and grace. It also is believed to have the power to unite the yin and the yang and maintain a sense of harmony. The phoenix leader is resilient.
