ABSTRACT

Simon Sinek writes that leaders should have a higher purpose of taking care of the team first. He further states that organizational successes and failures are clearly a result of leadership when many individuals still believe that it is managerial acumen that is responsible. The formation processes of teams have been studied over time by many theorists. There is a consistent model of progression of teams as they come together. In the beginning, teams will not perform well despite the homogeneous nature of the members. The storming phase of team evolution is the most tenuous but one of the most important. It is the time when most teams will fail due to a high degree of frustration coupled with a low degree of trust. Instability in the storming phase is what is responsible for the movement to the norming phase. Team members know each other and learn how to handle each other’s emotions and behaviors.
