ABSTRACT
Drilling techniques are briefly reviewed with types of rig applicable to different rock types indicated. Sample recovery is not traditionally emphasised but it is clear that the recovery of minimally disturbed core material can provide greatly improved resolution and understanding of the aquifer resource. While not generally possible for cost considerations, it is important that the possibilities and advantages are appreciated. Examples of push tube and vibro-coring techniques are presented.
