ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on giving guidance to doctors, nurses, and anyone in the medical community who interacts with women who have eating disorders and also are trying to get pregnant or are pregnant. Women are not bringing up the topic in the doctor’s office due to shame or fear of judgment, and doctors often do not feel competent enough to assess fully for eating disorder behaviors or symptoms. This chapter offers ideas for using a weight-neutral, body-neutral lens for assessing health, and using principles from Health at Every Size (HAES) it proposes some changes that can happen in the medical community to support these clients in the most effective and affirming way.
