Chapter 3 describes the basics of taking archaeobotanical samples in the field, discusses sampling strategies, describes water flotation—a technique for recovering macroremains that is often carried out by field archaeologists—and presents guidelines for selecting artifacts for residue analysis and field-sampling them.
