ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the key debates surrounding sexualised content. Studies also tend to focus on the belief that pornography normalises more extreme sexual activity. Most attention has traditionally been paid to so-called 'child pornography' and, as will be seen, this is the issue that international law traditionally focuses on. However, increasingly attention has returned to the issue of 'adult pornography', that is pornography that features only adults. There are three issues that will be considered: obscene publications, extreme pornography and 'revenge pornography'. The charge against pornography is largely made by feminists, although it should be noted that this is an issue that divides feminists. Some modern feminists argue that not all forms of pornography are wrong or should banned. The more usual argument that is put forward against pornography is that it is a harm against women as a whole.
