ABSTRACT

Autism Spectrum Disorder is an umbrella term used to describe a pattern of difficulties in socialization and communication, where restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests and activities may be apparent. This chapter provides checklists to help identify Autism Spectrum Disorder in two sub categories, Autism and Asperger Syndrome. Supporting notes include information about each of these aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder, suggested strategies for supporting the student in the classroom, recommended further reading and information about useful organizations and their web sites.
