ABSTRACT

Lust comes in many forms. Ordinary language recognizes blood lust, wanderlust, lust for freedom, for liberty, for food and drink, for power, and even a lust to kill. There are interesting gender differences in infidelity. Men cheat on their wives because they seek sexual variation and need to prove to them that they can still do it. Results showed that dissolutions following adultery or infidelity had been reliably reported in at least 88, which makes adultery a significantly more common cause than any other except sterility. After many years of continuous increase, the divorce rate has finally levelled off, but extramarital affairs remain the most common precipitating incident. Psychoanalytic types have a field day with the internal struggles between lust and love. The declining birth rate is real enough, and pretty near universal. The US birth rate is about 1.87 children per fecund woman and most Western European rates are as low or lower.
