ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the fundamentals of the book and highlights the reason and significance of the book in housing studies and policy formulation. A detailed overview of housing adequacy issues and residential satisfaction background are provided. The objective of the book, which is to provide an understanding of the formation of housing satisfaction and of housing policy trends in developing countries with an in-depth focus on South Africa, is also discussed with a detailed presentation of the scope and areas of interest that are covered in each section.
