ABSTRACT

Continuing with the possibility to enrich Csikszentmihalyi’s systems model of creativity, this chapter explores the dynamics of knowledge in domains and fields by bringing forward the ideas of the sociologist Andrew Abbott. These ideas portray knowledge as a continuous and societal effort of rediscovery. For creators and the creativity field, rediscovery could mean more competition and following established conventions and lineages in research collaboration. It could also mean being influenced by values of solidarity, humbleness and openness to borrow knowledge. Two activities of heuristic borrowing and self-awareness are drawn from the exploration to enrich the enquiry system previously proposed.
