ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the research-based indicators of institutionalization that appear to influence both the institutionalization process and, in some cases, signify that institutionalization has, in fact, occurred. It outlines the multiple sources of data used to develop the case studies; explain the criteria used to select the five case study schools. The chapter describes the format used in each case study and explain, where appropriate, how the indicators are associated with certain sections in the case studies. The case studies are based on multiple sources of data. Documents were utilized such as school catalogs, histories, service program brochures, internal memoranda, and program evaluations. The several schools used for the case studies were selected because of the quality of their data. The school structure, most especially schedule, serves to support the operation of program. This occurs because the program becomes a line item in the school's academic budget and financial budget.
