ABSTRACT

In the case of countries like Malaysia, considering that there are a large number of people of Indian origin in Malaysia, India has initiated a number of steps in terms of cooperation in education. Private educational institutions have set up campuses in Malaysia and many Malaysian Universities have set up twinning programmes with Indian higher education institutions especially with regard to medical degrees. With the advent and advancement of technology, the knowledge economy has gained a growing importance of innovation, not only competitiveness enhancing features but also innovation for coping with the impacts, social, ecological and economic of increasing cross-border trade flows and ties. The chapter explores the possibility of and the enabling conditions needed for knowledge institutional cooperation in the Asia regional context specifically between India and Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Normative frameworks to promote cooperation in areas such as Science and Technology between higher learning institutions in India and Thailand need to factor in society and sustainability.
