ABSTRACT

Presently, limited research exists on the current status of transformation in the higher education in post-apartheid South Africa, from the perspective of South African academic faculty. Utilizing case studies, the objective of this co-edited anthology is to highlight South African faculty perspectives from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), located in Cape Town, South Africa. The volume uncovers their views on the current status of transformation of higher education South Africa, along with an understanding of the strategies CPUT faculty and affiliated faculty are utilizing and or developing to move beyond their post-apartheid state of being to:

produce graduates at the undergraduate, master’s and doctorate levels with the knowledge, skills and abilities to contribute successfully in industry, the community and globally;

guarantee fair access to qualified individuals in management, staffing and student recruitment from all cultural backgrounds;

create and advance diverse and multicultural teaching practices and programming;

build and advance support for quality research and teaching that benefits the demographic composition of South African academics and students and the needs of the South African multicultural society;

build new institutional identities of merged and non-merged higher education institutions in order to rise above preceding apartheid injustices; and

gather recommendations from the South Africa academic community on how to further advance the transformation of higher education institutions in post-apartheid South Africa.
