ABSTRACT

This chapter is a question and answer style article that contains past FRCA paper examples related to neurosurgery, neuroradiology and neurocritical care. It also guides trainees on the most effective manner in which to approach these questions. The chapter presents a case study of 23-year-old man who is brought to the emergency department following an assault in a nightclub. He appears to have suffered significant mid-face fractures and is uncooperative with staff. Trainees are asked to accompany him to the CT scanner. The discussion covers the following: The immediate management plan for this patient (25%); the options for securing the airway in this case and any advantage or disadvantage of the methods (25%); problems should be anticipated before securing the airway.
