ABSTRACT

This chapter is a question and answer style article that contains past FRCA paper examples related to neurosurgery, neuroradiology and neurocritical care. It also guides trainees on the most effective manner in which to approach these questions. The chapter presents the case study of a 76-year-old man who is scheduled for elective cataract surgery under local anaesthesia. The discussion covers the following: the goals of local anaesthesia (LA) for this procedure; LA techniques may be used for cataract surgery; the contraindications to the use of LA as the sole technique for the procedure; and details specific to an LA block should be documented in the anaesthetic record.
