ABSTRACT

Circling back to prior points made during earlier components of the research, the accounting function and practitioners must evolve and adapt alongside other functional areas within the organization. Sustainability, issuing different types of reports and information for a variety of external stakeholders, and making sure these types of information are valid and accurate are not trends that represent a short-term fad. Stakeholder groups, including financial and nonfinancial stakeholders and institutional groups are interested in both the financial and the nonfinancial implications of sustainability and sustainability reporting. The accounting profession continues to evolve and change as the marketplace continues to transform into one almost entirely driven by digitization, globalization, and the connection between nonfinancial information, organizational performance, and the strategic planning process at companies. The true value added proposition of an accounting function is to deliver information that enables decision makers and users of information to make effective, timely, and relevant decisions.
