ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a kaizen project for Manufacturing Cost Improvement (MCI) through equipment scrap reduction and a kaizen project for MCI through equipment rework reduction. Continuous improvement of equipment efficiency is the core concern of the MCI change driver on the need to increase equipment efficiency to ensure external manufacturing target profit. The chapter discusses a kaizen project for MCI through equipment cycle time reduction and describes a kaizen project for MCI by reducing the cycle times of operations of a manual assembly line. It outlines a kaizen project for MCI through equipment breakdown losses elimination (time with mechanical failure) and addresses a kaizen project for MCI through equipment set-up, settings, and adjustment losses improvement. Daily MCI management ensures that every employee is committed to achieving the annual MCI goal and quickly and consistently solves any cost problem, on the basis of an effective and efficient dialogue between all levels of the company.
