ABSTRACT

The structured oral examination or viva is a station where candidates will be asked a set of ordered questions by the examiner. Many candidates will be familiar with viva examinations from their undergraduate days or job interviews. A viva voce examination, say when presenting a university thesis, will set out to interrogate the candidate and test the limits of their knowledge. This is a structured viva. The examiner will ask candidates a series of questions about issues relating to the management of obese women in pregnancy. It will assess the following domains: communication with colleagues; applied clinical knowledge; and Patient safety.
