ABSTRACT

The 'history and management' stations are a good opportunity for the clinically experienced candidate to shine. The majority of Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Part 3 candidates will have a few years of valuable clinical experience under their belts such that taking a relevant patient history, conducting an appropriate examination, arriving at a diagnosis and formulating a management plan are second nature. Medical students often consider treating a condition in an abstract way with little consideration for the patient or the need to develop appropriate management strategies. The key is to demonstrate that this knowledge can be put into practice in the 'real' clinical environment. As practising obstetrics and gynaecology, clinicians spend a large part of their working week formulating what they hope are the most effective, appropriate and acceptable management plans for clinician’s patients. In general, the examiner will ask questions around the management of O&G problems presenting in an elective.
