ABSTRACT

Healthcare professionals often find skin problems daunting at first. Urticaria is a rash triggered by the immune system either appropriately, inappropriately or for an unknown reason. It is caused by dilation of capillaries and the release of histamine from mast cells, causing leakage of plasma into the skin. Many viruses cause a diffuse macular rash. There are thousands of different types of virus, and the type of rash that they cause is not consistent, so it is usually impossible to name the virus. Purple rashes are usually caused by leaking of blood from the vessels just under the skin; therefore, they do not blanch with pressure or when covered by a glass. Caused by recurrence of varicella zoster virus, often after a period of debility or psychosocial stress. Molluscum Contagiosum is a poxvirus infection that produces clusters of round, raised, pearly white lesions usually on the trunk and limbs of children.
