ABSTRACT

The needs that professional practitioners routinely respond to exist within a particular locality. Increasingly politicians and policy makers in general assume that care will happen in the community. The community professional development demands that the approach to community working has produced is still being developed, but promises a more generic focus which in turn will certainly feed back into the already well-established professional practice course providers. Community is a contested concept, and like statistics can be a musical instrument upon which any number of different tunes can be played. Sociologists became interested in the development of the shared bonds that could be seen to make up a 'community' involving the fraternal sharing and caring aspects of people with a shared locality –physical and symbolic space –and day-to-day life experience. Integrated care exeter is a strategic alliance of public, voluntary and community sectors organisations who work together to provide an infrastructure for designing and delivering improved ways to provide public services.
