ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the internal logic of the Chinese media system and the motivation of the manipulators. It introduces how the Chinese Communist Party has tightly controlled the media in history. The chapter also introduces the system and operations aspects of the Party press, the reasons behind the Party press's rapid growth in the newspaper market and the influences of the Party press on the general public. Text comparison between the source language texts and the target language texts has revealed the fully intentional manipulation of news. Censorship in cankao xiaoxi involves the suppression of source news texts published in the international media that may be considered objectionable, sensitive, or harmful to the country. There are intangible/unwritten rules for source news selection, translation, and editing, which promote translation shifts from the source but also guarantee that the production of cankao xiaoxi is in consonance with the Central Committee's essential guidelines.
