ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates case studies in relation to urban land market. It discusses influential factors and the structure of the land market in relation to the comprehensive changes in land policy and urban planning occurring in the Rennes District. The chapter examines how each actor proceeds in the conversion of raw land into developed land in the Rennes District. It identifies and describes the background of each subdivision. The case study of Pompey in the chapter shows the reasons for economic and urban redevelopment policy, the methods used and the results. Pompey is one of two steel areas located near Nancy, most of steel industry being in the northern part of Lorraine. A publicly owned entity was created, called Pompey Developpement, which subsidized the interest on loans and gave a bonus for each steelworker engaged in new activities.
