ABSTRACT

The majority of the “scholars” at all levels are proudly displaying a huge list of pseudoscience publications and shambolic conferences. To elaborate, outcome-oriented scholarship is being pushed by governing bodies like the National Research Foundation in South Africa, where institutional funding and university subsidies are determined mostly by publications and research. Consequently, scholarship is increasingly oriented towards research for publications. Hence the scholarship is tweaked mainly for publication often without any public actions. In contrast, the “organic” intellectualism of the Humanities and Social Sciences is known for its un/critical critique of crass capitalism in India. For instance, the way the Indian Council of Historical Research and the Indian Council of Social Science Research have been restructured must be a case in point. Indian universities are seemingly failing to create scholars who question uncritical identity markers. The majority of the “scholars” at all levels are proudly displaying a huge list of pseudoscience publications and shambolic conferences.
