ABSTRACT

In order to understand the lifeworld of people with this level of cognitive difficulties, people have to make reference to recent models of how the brain works and the possible cognitive deficits the disturbance of this system can create. Within this tradition, the most interesting part of the cognitive system is the interplay between the frontal lobe and other parts of the brain. The frontal lobe is regarded as the mediator between culture and individual impulses. Since 1980 the diagnostic systems have avoided getting aetiology and causes included in the definitions of mental illnesses and developmental disorders. It is further imperative to acknowledge the crucial interaction between impairment and stigma if we are turning our focus from the disability of these people to the abilities. The mental map might also be in conflict with the ordinary conception of the factual situation. Feelings and sentiments value the situations but they are also the important markers of hidden memories.
