ABSTRACT

The request for research support was initiated by the chief manager of regional residential homes because, as he said, they knew that they were doing well and had promising results. The observations comprised days just walking around; talking with residents and staff members on informal bases using them as informants telling about the relationships, routines, their everyday world, family relations, expectations, visions and complains. The aetiology might be connected with specific neuro-degenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, Picks’ disease, Jacob-Kreutsfelt’s disease and Huntington-Chorea’s disease. The problematic can be identified as the tendency of trans-local actors to emphasise simple and measurable concepts for the pedagogical intervention. The professional staff know the state of art of current discourses on dementia from internal courses and they know the difficulties of the residents from their everyday practice. When interpreting the challenging behaviour of the residents, they almost consequently refer to anxiety as the main cause of action.
