ABSTRACT

The school heard about a Facilitated Action Research programme run by tutors from a university and held at a local nursery school as after-school hours twilight sessions from the local head teacher network. As a school, they decided this would be a good professional development opportunity and participated. The focus on learning provided by action research chimed with the school ethos and statement which outlines their approach to learning: At Shears Green Infant School we are focused on enabling children to become confident and creative builders of their own future. The school's focus on empowerment fits with a professional development opportunity provided by facilitated action research that supports practitioners to learn how to carry out a project supported by tutors and to move through the stages so that they can continue to address issues and questions about practice through future action research projects.
