ABSTRACT

Boards talk business, not sustainability. Therefore, anybody wanting to bring sustainability to the board’s attention needs to use business language. This chapter explains how social and environmental issues affect a company’s competitiveness and cash-flow statement. As sustainability affects the bottom line, long-term investors are increasingly using non-financial data in corporate reports to assess social and environmental risks as well as opportunities for creating shared value.
