ABSTRACT

This research is focused on the role that local village communities can have in their contribution to the tourist experiential and learning experience. The research also evaluates how such communities can have a better a stake-hold in the wider benefits that are generally attributed and accrue from more traditional holiday or resort destinations and as a response to increasing mass and over-tourism issues. The research is based upon a current on-going project titled: ‘Meet the Locals: Discovering Malta and Gozo through its people and culture’ (Jones and Zarb, 2017).
