ABSTRACT

Hermann Rorschach was born in Wiedikon in Zürich, Switzerland to Ulrich and Philippine. Herman grew up on the banks of the Rhine in the Renaissance city of Schaffhausen. Hermann attended the Schaffhausen Gymnasium from 1898 to 1904. It was German tradition that fraternity students would receive nicknames. Hermann had a passion for Russian culture and life and held Russian women in high esteem. Without tuition, Hermann mastered the Russian language in less than two years. For Hermann, the future of psychology would be driven by the nature of perception. In 1913 Hermann was promoted and transferred to Munsingen, near Bern. In 1914, Hermann tackled the Russian bureaucracy and was permitted to take the Russian state medical examinations. On April 1st, 1922, Rorschach was taken suddenly ill and by 10 am the following morning he had died from peritonitis. As the Rorschach cult grew, there were offshoots in approach, differences and warring factions.
