ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with what happens to you if you have a mental health problem. It is important to investigate this as in today’s society so many people suffer from mental health problems and numbers are still rising. Understanding the causes of unipolar depression and addiction can in turn help improve the quality of life of those suffering as we can develop appropriate treatments for their disorders. Key terms

Unipolar depression is a mood disorder which is seen as a constant disturbance to mood, whereas bipolar disorder involves fluctuations between moods of manic depression (very low mood swings) and mania (very high mood swings).

Addiction is a physical or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, such as a drug or alcohol.
