ABSTRACT

There has been a great deal of interest in E-applications to meet the requirements of different segments of the public, such as E-commerce, E-health, E-business, and E-learning. Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is a broadband wireless technology that has emerged as an alternative to digital subscriber line (DSL) communication and brings the broadband line to the air. WiMAX base stations can be efficiently used in a cellular system, since they use orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). OFDMA facilitates the allocation of user resources in the time domain (slots) and frequency domain (subchannels); therefore, the allocation of radio resources can be controlled in time and frequency for every user. Fractional frequency reuse uses one-third of the available subchannels to serve cell border users. Thus, the intercell interference is mitigated since different subcarriers are used in each cell border at the same time slot.
