ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 unpacks the extended ethnographic investigation of a young woman’s conversion and Baptism (from Chapter 5) in order to look at what the various modes of transformation are moving to: namely, the making of ikons and the ikonicity of people and place. The chapter highlights different materials and substances involved, and investigates the role of such material within the process of becoming like ikon.
