ABSTRACT

This chapter describes three groups of teachers: Delaware County English teachers, Delaware County film teachers, and Philadelphia film coordinators. It provides demographic information on the three groups in terms of age, sex, years of teaching experience, type of class taught, whether or not they have had training in film, the number of clock hours, and the types of film training they have had. Two questionnaires were designed, one specifically for English teachers, the other for film teachers. Both questionnaires provide demographic information on the teacher, such as age, sex, and teaching experience, and assess the amount of filmmaking that occurs in both film and English classes. The objectives pursued in teaching filmmaking were determined by a review of the literature. The questionnaire designed for film teachers omitted questions appropriate to English teaching, such as the purpose for film use in the classroom. It was assumed that the film teacher was teaching film, rather than using it for some ancillary purpose.
