ABSTRACT
This chapter compares the responses of Philadelphia film coordinators and Delaware County English teachers who are high, medium, and low film users on their purposes for using film. It also aims to discover the objectives of each of the six groups of teachers when teaching a film or filmmaking and, to determine the methodology used. However, this group feels that film also needs to be analyzed in order to examine the assumptions about real life that are presented on the screen. Twenty-one film courses offered in Delaware County, three are devoted primarily to filmmaking with six other courses including some filmmaking. Filmmaking is a course favored by close to fifty percent of all groups, and it ranks as either a first, second, or third choice for all groups except the medium film users and the non-users. The film teachers show particular interest in film theory and aesthetics. The film coordinators would also be interested in a course in film theory.
