ABSTRACT

The strain caused by the propagation of longitudinal acoustic wave changes the refractive index and thickness of each layer of the photonic crystal. Thus, the photonic crystal gets perturbed by the acousto-optic effect. The effects of amplitude and time period of acoustic wave and the polarization of electromagnetic wave on electromagnetic density of mode have been studied. The electromagnetic density of mode gets strongly modified and can be dynamically tuned with these parameters, which has many applications as in band-edge lasing and optical delay lines.
