ABSTRACT
Volunteer police are utilized in a variety of ways in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Most often, volunteer police are utilized to support a police patrol function, whether in a car or on foot, but many progressive police leaders have found other ways that volunteers, especially those with police authority, may help meet agency objectives. This chapter will particularly address volunteers in work environments that would normally be considered investigative or government services roles.
