ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some of the challenges that face ESP instructors in EAP and EOP settings. First, this chapter discusses the challenges that affect needs analysis and the strategies that can help mitigate them. Then, the chapter explains the challenges and mitigation strategies related to learning objectives, materials and methods, and evaluation procedures. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the contentious issue of managing change in ESP and how a program of change can lead to many of the challenges faced by ESP instructors being avoided from the outset.
