ABSTRACT

Assistive Technology has the ability to change the lives of those who use it. As technology options and features have expanded, so has their use by individuals with disabilities. One model that has successfully interpreted the complex individualized issues with technology and those with disabilities using it is the Matching Person and Technology model. Project Career was designed to respond to the challenges experienced by individuals with traumatic brain injury pursuing higher education and entering the workforce. Some students may benefit from a technology and employment coordinator (TEC) attending class with them to understand how the technology is used in real time in the natural use environment. This is where the TECs use their experience and expertise to determine the best course of action for each student and implement the different training methods. John, a sophomore undergraduate premedical student, sought services from Project Career after having failed math, biology and chemistry.
