ABSTRACT

This chapter provides structure and consistency in how people can address the concepts of acceptance, adoption, and usability. It utilizes the terms technology, system and innovation interchangeably. The chapter addresses the following questions: What do the concepts technology acceptance, technology adoption, and usability of technologies mean? Why are certain technologies, or innovations, better accepted and adopted than others? How should one determine or measure acceptance and adoption, and test usability of technologies? Inconsistent terminologies in the assistive technology field ‘hampers understanding and collaboration, and service transitions’. The performance measurements can be conducted either in a laboratory setting or by observing users in their natural work environment. The performance measurements can be conducted either in a laboratory setting or by observing users in their natural work environment. The study used a single indirect method for measuring technology acceptance, with a strong theoretical-based rational.
