ABSTRACT

This chapter covers maintenance and improvement of the quality management system (QMS). Metrics are addressed in some detail, including some cautions. Internal audits will be a key component of the maintenance and improvement of the QMS, and the subject is addressed in some detail, including assessment of the effectiveness of the audits. The role that a quality council can play in maintenance and improvements is outlined. Management review is also important for its ability to make top management a key driving force of the process. The chapter also covers the involvement of registrars/notified bodies as part of maintenance and improvement. The chapter ends by covering initiatives to watch for the future.
