ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the importance of change management be driven through a Change Management Strategic Plan, and the need to develop it in a seamless integration with the project management team. Project initiation and planning is the phase during which the organizational change management strategic approach should be defined, which can sometimes even influence the way the project will be organized and developed. Every change process needs a sponsor, someone with credibility and power to drive the change, monitor it, and intervene whenever necessary. Many organizations that are beginning to apply a structured approach to organizational change management still need to raise their leaders' awareness of what this approach is, what it does, and what to expect from it. Every organization has a unique organizational culture, that is, a set of customs, habits, beliefs, values, and behaviors usually accepted and used—an unspoken way of doing things within the particular organization.
